Last week while vacationing in Jamaica, the hotel staff were always reminding me that I was in the ‘no problem zone’ – a blissful, worry-free environment, free from the everyday concerns of regular life. Sweet.
Have you ever felt like you have everything under control at work or on a project? You’ve done everything you were supposed to, planned for every contingency you could imagine and have all your plans backed up. If anything goes wrong – you’re prepared – no problem!
Problems are a regular part of projects – they happen. Make sure part of your plan for handling them involves an ‘early warning system’. Most problems are so much easier to fix when they are small or in the early stages vs. trying to deal with them when they are out of control. Having channels in place that allow stakeholders, vendors and team members to identify issues when or before they occur provides a framework to respond and take action sooner.
Keep those problems on your radar … track ownership and resolution in your management zone.
